Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai (Novel) - Vol. 8 Ch. 6

Here be your Haganai as scheduled, arrrr. Pretty fitting chapter given the episode that aired today too, because this chapter's got the whole club playing a game together just like they did with the king game. In any case, I'm still on track for the schedule I mentioned earlier, so let's get right to the links below:

  6. Hm... nothing really changed between them.

Yozora still hates Sena with all her might.

    This will not end good.

Just forget that they all become friends in the end.

    1. It definitely brought out the worst in Yozora and Sena, and, in a way, Yukimura. Although, for Sena, another way of looking at it was that she was willing to pay anything to avoid losing a friend, which isn't bad. She just expressed it in a really desperate, gross way.

I guess this chapter was a reminder that, even with Kodaka's warm thoughts while watching the movie with everyone, everybody's still got problems. Also, that Rika's still the best choice. She played the game well without taking it too seriously, and only lost because she was being jerked around by a guy...

    2. Sena: You mean real life money can't buy you friends? Come on, someone sell me theirs!

    3. And it brought out a cool, dark side of Yozora :3 Kind of reminded me of Lelouch, with that image and the terrorist reference and all.

  7. Many people are saying Rika is the best choice and while i can understand why, they should also understand why she is the best choice and what she is the best choice for. Rika's perverted nature is nothing but a facade, anyone with any perception can understand it's her defense so she doesn't get hurt so that in itself isn't even a truly bad trait of her character. Rika also understands Kodaka the best so in terms of truly understanding him, it's not even close. All of these things amount of her winning no? Well i disagree. Kodaka isn't a bad character, if anything he was built up fairly well, he isn't amazing or anything but considering how horrible harem MCs can turn out, he turned out fairly well. Kodaka needs before anything romantic a foundation which he can lean back on, and to him that is the very friendship he has been grasping for. He tries to establish that word so badly that even risking throwing away the feeling of it leads to him playing ignorant to those who like him.

Rika may very well be the "best" choice, but i believe that her application isn't to winning but to being his first friend. Be it fan bases and their thoughts, the author's implications, heck even the new OP in the anime, it has always been Sena vs Yozora for better or worse. Of course we may always get a twist, friends often can upgrade themselves after all, so Rika becoming his friend wouldn't "kill" her chances it would just drastically hurt them since i doubt the author would let Sena or Yozora waste their chance in potential development as to how they react and also the possibility that one of them confesses which all of you are very well aware that if either one of them HAD to confess it would be Sena. Say what you will about Sena but her methods have always been more straightforward and always held more confidence, she doesn't rely on tricks like Yozora, no does she use double meaning either.

Well whatever the case i feel kinda bad for Rika, because despite my preference for Sena to win, i keep realizing more and more how much i wouldn't mind if Rika won either.

    1. Well, yeah. Convention is first girl/childhood friend wins, so unless Mr. Hirasaka is going for a subversion, Yozora wins. If he did go for a subversion, though, Rika winning after Yozora and Sena destroy each other's chances somehow would be a good one.

Unfortunately Sena is probably the least likely to win, from a storytelling perspective. She falls into the gap between the conventional ending (Yozora) and the opposite of normal ending (Rika). Yukimura is probably too bland and pathetic to win even in a subversion, though.

      Delete
    2. Sorry to be rude, but well I'm a blunt person so i will say it straight, are you smoking something? Or rather have you ever watched anime at all?! Do you seriously know how many times the childhood friend LOSES, it's so well known that it's even called friendzoned. It's not the "first girl" that wins, it's the "new girl" that wins. How many anime do you think exist where a new girl shows up and steals away the MC, i mean seriously you want them listed? Yozora being a childhood friend hurts her, it doesn't help her. Also by that standard both Sena and Yozora are childhood friends with Kodaka with Sena knowing him even first, but unlike Yozora she doesn't lean on it which if anything helps her not be friendzoned.

Only thing you truly got right is that Yukimura has no shot at all, because frankly Yukimura never had a chance to begin with.

      Delete
    3. I don't know who you're trying to kid by saying that the childhood friend always wins despite the many instances to the contrary, but I suspect it's yourself.

      Delete
    4. Usually when the first girl/childhood friend loses, they're put out in front from the start as a foil to the intended girl.

OTOH, Yozora seems to be getting the slow build and Sena keeps getting "flags" to the point where her winning would pretty much be the out in left field option.

Rika is probably out of contention as of the end of the volume.

      Delete
    5. Just want to add one thing for the Sena fans. Don't get your hopes up because of all these recent "flags" that she's been getting. It's a common(and over-used) plot-trick that authors tend to use. Giving the rival more events and making her get close to the protagonist in the beginning, that is. It's a bit too obvious in this case, though.

  8. thanks for the chapter and i just want to add rika is in the lead by my count as i can think of a few chapters were he stated she was perfect cept the things that come out her mouth

  11. Those who always say "The childhood friend wins" or "in this case this or that will happen" are just proofing that they are not thinking about the story and the characters.

Just think about the characters and their behavior:

For Kodaka the Neighbors Club is a place where he can be happy. If you just think about this, what was Kodaka doing the whole time...? And what was Yozora doing the whole time...?

While Yozora don't care about the happiness within the club, Kodaka always tries to recover it! He makes those people happy again Yozora bullied! He is always thinking about how he can avoid conflicts to maintain a friendly atmosphere within the club. Just look at the current episode! He is doing that the whole time through the whole series.

The Neighbors club became a happy place after Yozora's fall, and Kodaka himself let her fall.

    Summray:
There is a race between Yozora and Kodaka to maintain the happiness within the place, and Kodaka won the race with the support from Sena and Rika.

Kodaka was against Yozora from the very first start.

    And so:
    Rika becomes his friend.
    Sena becomes his girlfriend.

    The end.

    1. Er.............................. nobody said "The childhood friend wins". It's just that THE MAIN GIRL WINS. And yep, that's all. Can't say anything more on those delusions of yours that I haven't already said. You need to familiarize yourself with the different types of genres and make appropriate deductions based on that.

    2. Oh wait. I just read a comment that says something about the "childhood friend" winning. I agree(at least on this one point). That's wrong.

      Delete
    3. Wait, what? Are you really saying Yozora is NOT the main girl? Oh man. That sure clears things up. I was talking to a retard. It's plain and simple as that. If you are failing to see even this much, then words can't define how pitiful you are. Just what have you been reading or watching to this point? Or you are this bent on believing in your delusions then there's this alternate-story Haganai manga out there that portrays Sena as the main girl. Reading that may give you some peace of mind.

    4. I hope Yozora fans consider the comment above next time they attempt to paint people commenting against Yozora as simply raging fanboys making immature insults.

    5. Yeah. People are just supposed to sit back with their mouths shut after being called the likes of "morons", "fools" and other assorted insults. You'd be hard-pressed to find someone as patient as that out in the world.

    1. Incredible argument! I'm convinced.

    2. Moron is talking about Sena while being a hypocrite doing it, saying he doesn't mind then calling her a brat in the same sentence :/

You know it really is amazing how not a single Yozora fan can put up a decent argument, i have heard good arguments for not only Sena but even Rika, and yet Yozora fans ironically mimic Yozora methods and use contrived fallacies in attempt to generate something that simply isn't there.

      Delete
    3. If you're failing to see "decent" arguments for Yozora, then it can be chalked up to your warped image of her. It's preventing you from seeing things you don't want to see.

      Delete
    4. Here's the argument against Yozora:

She started out as an utterly unpleasant person who takes pleasure in the misery of others, and she has continued to be so even up to this point, making every opportunity to antagonize others, particularly Sena, out of obvious jealousy. She even seems to get delight out of pointing out that none of them have friends, which is an especially significant sign of her lack of development.

It has even been revealed that she didn't even create the club to make friends, but rather to simply claim Kodaka for herself. As late as volume 7 had Kodaka still in awe at her petty hatred for Riajuu, and she can't stop herself from even insulting him when she can. It was even implied that she actually hates Sena during the movie making parts, which further shows that she's not truly developing feelings of friendship, at least not to the same extent as the other members.

Then there were the connections to Sena from his past all of a sudden being introduced. They were apparently childhood friends too, and were even engaged. That would mean less if were introduced at the beginning of the story, but to throw it in so late in the game obviously means something.

If I was Kodaka, I'd burn down the clubroom with Yozora and Sena both still inside, but that wouldn't make for much of a story. I'd totally go for Yukimura, since while she's disturbed in her own way what with her gender confusion, at least her disturbance doesn't manifest itself in cruelty (Yozora), arrogance (Sena) or bizarre sexual deviancy (Rika). But if we are to objectionably try and figure out who, if anyone, Kodaka will end up with, we can probably rule out Yozora. She needs some SERIOUS redemption before anyone can make a solid case for her. I'd say Yozora's story is now less of a question of if she'll get with Kodaka, but rather whether she'll have a happy ending of any kind.

      Delete
    5. Funny thing is that Yozora fans are so blind they don't even understand that she NEEDS redemption. Get this clear, because your ignorance is annoying, Yozora has done a lot of wrong to make up for. Also another thing that you CAN'T DENY, Yozora wants the polar opposite of what Kodaka wants, that isn't exactly good news for your ignorant pairing beliefs. Kodaka wants friends, he wants to be a part of a society that can accept him and that he can take part in, do you really need me to state how different that is from what Yozora wants? You all are so freaken delusion, i mean seriously even that one Yozora fag tried to say all childhood friends win, You are so in denial you can't even make proper arguments.

Also again since you know, you have thick skulls and you are dense as hell, Yozora isn't the only main heroine so you morons leaning on that are seriously beyond home and should stfu before you humiliate your sense of reason even more.

OH I'M SO IN DENIAL! I CAN'T EVEN MAKE A PROPER ARGUMENT!

  15. Yozora has a chance with Kodaka besides that she is a main heroine of this novel. Kodaka and Yozora also has a good pairing like when they got out to watch Cinema and when they're in the coffee shop filled with cats. The author makes her talk like that just to add comedy in the story. :) BTW thanks for translating Vexed!

  17. i don't get how sena's fans deny yozora's improvement. she does not hate sena, if you don't understand that maybe you have to read the light novels again. At first she may have hate her, but she has started to grow fond of her. just look at "the tower" chapeter, yozora even praised sena. in "opening act" vol. 8, she didn't deny the chance to compete against sena, as she said it in a shy way.
A different thing is that yozora likes to tease her, beacuse Sena IS a spoiled pretentious girl, that's her character, she looks down on people, willing or unwilling she does, and that pisses yozora, anyone can sympathize with her.
As i was saying, yozora has improved, it's untruth that she thinks only on herself and kodaka. she worried when rika was sick, she made a gift to kobato, she apologized to sena after the tower incident, she was so frustated about not writting a script good enough for the movie that she even turn into piracy. she cares about maria too, kate was graceful with yozora, and you know how overprotective she is. if yozora was the devil, kate wouldn't let maria hang out with her. most of the activities the club does were yozora's ideas, sena had some too but mostly she only sits in the club playing galge, and yozora reading i now...
my point is, yozora is not "falling" and she is not condemned to a life of loneliness as some people say. it really piss me off when sena fans say that, it simply is not logical, this LN is a comedy, the character will NEVER have a tragic ending.
BTW i like sena but she has bad points to, i expect sena's fans can at least admit she is no perfect.

    1. Thank you for actually bothering to make a post that shows Yozora's thoughts and concern for people other than herself. I don't know why some people simply and outright reject it.

She actually was looking forward to being friends with Maria until she was insulted, then while grabbing some candy for her, accidentally ended up hitting Maria since she came way too close, so she decided to just go along with it and play the villain. Later, she felt bad and decided to provide Maria with more snacks in the meantime.

      Delete
    2. In words of Kate:
"Yozora Mikadzuki too; I'm especially thankful to her".
"Yozora took Maria and dragged her outside of her shell without so much as a hint of hesitation, mercy, or consideration. I think that's what Maria really needed."

      Delete
    3. First of all, don't use the manga to prove points. It played out far differently in the light novel, which is intended to be canon, not the manga.

As for not really hating Sena, I suggest re-reading the Second Time chapter from volume 7. She makes it very clear she does hate Sena without even saying it. And despite that, Sena even suggests that she doesn't actually hate Yozora as much as she pretends to.

Then early in Volume 8, we see Sena trying to take the initiative with Yozora, saying it would be fun if she participated against her in the athletic festival. Despite Sena's obvious attempt at some sort of friendly dialogue, Yozora simply blows her off, showing that she's still the least advanced in terms of seeing others as friends.

And regarding Kate's opinion, do you really believe that it is going to affect how Kodaka sees things? Or that getting her out of her "shell" was Yozora's intention?

    4. To the guy providing the specific examples of Yozora above I have this to say: Please don't bother. There's this person who hangs around here, making random, silly and down-right illogic declarations, all the while piling hate on Yozora and insulting everyone who tries to reason with him. I'd say this person is quite young and narrow-minded. He not only has his mind hard-set on one thing, but he is also attempting to push his opinions on everyone else here. In quite an emotional manner, I might add.

    5. Thanks, I've been holding back this whole time, but those statements about Yozora really infuriate me. Now I understand it's not possible to argue logically with this guy. In the end, it really wasn't worth the effort

    1. Losers argument, you simply can't acknowledge Yozora's faults. Sena has plenty of faults, as does Rika and every other character in this series, and sorry to break it you Yozora fanboy but that includes Yozora as well.

You fools need to understand that Yozora is losing now, Yozora will get development and in all likelihood she will even get better as i don't see the author giving Yozora a miserable end, HOWEVER i don't think her getting better will make her obtain victory. Kodaka has been against Yozora's ideals from the get go, go back and read his reactions everytime she makes distasteful comments about people. It's really simple, Kodaka wants something different then what Yozora wants, Yozora is satisfied with just Kodaka, but Kodaka wants more then that, he wants true friendship. Rika will likely open the door to friendship for him but that doesn't take away Yozora's problems, because unless we get trolled with unbelievable development she is nowhere near romance. Think about it. Kodaka obviously has many who like him, yet he can't skip straight to romance since he didn't take the step of friendship, that's what volume 7 and now 8 is all about. Yozora needs to take steps for her mindset also, you fags need to get a clue that she can't jump skip straight to the victory line. Sena and Rika are far ahead in both understanding what Kodaka wants as well as pulling themselves together. Rika in particular understands Kodaka best which is why after her becoming his friend i wouldn't mind her upgrading to a relationship (tho that said it won't happen since this has ALWAYS been Sena vs Yozora)

      Delete
    2. As i was trying to explain in my previous comment, it's not truth that "Yozora is satisfied with just Kodaka". Yozora is truly bonding with the Neighbors Club, she does care about them, and i think she does want them to be her friends. But it surely is different when it comes to other people (riajuus). Yozora has problems, but it is not impossible for her to be Kodaka's romantic interest.
I don't understand why we would get "trolled" with Yozora's development, it is obviously going to happen, and if you feel uncomfortable with that, you better brace yourself, it will happen eventually.

      Delete
    3. Exactly! Much like Yozora's same stance on most social behavior, sometimes its just not worth the effort.
These "Sena fans" should really stop having a tunnel vision on particular actions and look for the motivating factor that drives the characters.
Sena is driven by lust and a desire to stay in charge and be in control of others. Yozora sees people as equal, regardless of social status or natural talent because she has been off the deep end before.

      Delete
    4. *sigh*
This is the MAJOR problem with Yozora's fans.

It DOESN'T MATTER what you think of Yozora. No one cares whether you think her actions are justifiable, or make her human or whatever the hell. If you think she's a wonderful character and interpret her actions as "seeing people equal", fine. But it doesn't matter. What matters is what the fictional mind of Kodaka thinks.

Do you really believe it's the author's intent to have Kodaka come to the revelation that Yozora's cruelty, selfishness and petty hatred were all for the best? Doubtful. He's made it very clear that he does not see things the way she does. He wants to get along with people. It doesn't matter who is you believe is "right" in what they want, but the fact remains that they want different things. Their souls are at odds, and that makes things very difficult for Yozora fans who have to come up with these silly justifications.

      Delete
    5. "It's not truth when Sena's fans say we (Yozora's fans) don't have arguments. The thing is that it's really tiresome and we don't bother."

Exactly! Just reading comments like the one above is tiresome. But it's also amusing, so I'll continue to do so ;) This guy has a funny take on things.

  19. Sena's are the true fanboys always acting violently and insulting when someone doesn't think the same way as them (probably not all of them). As i said, i won't take the trouble of making a counterargument because you would surely disregard it.
I will only say that there is no winning or losing in this media. Because anything can happen in a fictional work.
Yes, i believe Yozora has fault, as well as every other person who has ever read the novels, and i think that that is particularly what is most appealing of her, that's what makes her cute (at least in our eyes).
I agree with you in regards of the development involving Rika being his first friend, but only that. I truly believe Kodaka ending with Yozora (and that doesn't make me a fanboy).

  21. To person who says that Sena is exactly all that Kodaka wants to be: Really?
Why do you believe Sena is so different from Yozora? In regards of friendship they are both the same. Do you think Kodaka will choose Sena because... why? She has more friends?
The usual development in the novel is Yozora saying "I heard *** is popular among normals, we should practice for when we have friends".
Has Sena ever done that? Sena does not concern about the other club members, remember how she turn down Maria's affection in the amusement park invitation. If she was actively looking to make friends, why does she avoid being alone with Yukimura, at least Yozora pays attention to her.
Yozora doesn't want to socialize? Kodaka will throw her away because that's not what he wants? Yozora does want friends, she want's one so badly she even invented one, Tomo-chan, she felt so lonely and desperate for human contact that she created an air friend. And Sena it's not that different, she turn into galge. Why would Kodaka want to be like Sena? She doesn't have friends, and for good reasons.

  22. Thank you so much to the translator! I burned through all the volumes in the past two days, I couldn't put them down! Seeing your rate of progression is a sigh of relief, as when I hit the latest chapter I became nervous that work on these chapters might be slow. I'm glad that's not the case.

Regarding the above opinions, I loved reading them. Though I am not sure why people are calling others morons and idiots. I am glad there appears to be rivalry between the Yozora and Sena fans though!

Here is my take on it. Looking at the forest from the trees, I have just been taking the latest developments within the story with the fall of Yozora and the "flags" as people mentioned of Sena to be an indication that Yozora is falling, and falling pretty hard at that for a reason. This to me is a foreshadowing event. The apparent distance that some folks have pointed out above between Kodakas views and Yozoras just give me a stronger impression that Yozora and Kodaka will prevail in the end. Sena is getting the limelight now in my opinion because the author wants to be fair to her and give her her moments of glory. I see it is pretty clear that first Kodaka as the main protagonist first needs to develop as a character first, before he is able to make the eventual choice between Yozora and Sena to begin with, and in the end drag Yozora up from the depths of despair. Right now Kodaka is too weak to be the "friend" the club needs him to be to help them with their problems. Yozora clearly wants a relationship with Kodaka, she just is stuck in the past, and doesn't realize what kinda relationship that is.

Sena's side is the only one insulting, though I'm pretty sure it's just one person, don't let him discourage you to comment, it's great to have new opinions on the LN.

    2. I agree with most of that as well, it's just that it really isn't anything that serious. It's first and foremost a comedy afterall. But, I generally I agree with you on the main points. I have said those same things as well, and countless times at that.

    3. You know I did a long as a highway rant over this, and you mentioned an excellent point. I'm just glad other people agree with me....The Sena side is so much louder than this one. What's with that?

  23. As I see it, our preference in heroines are different because we have different personalities.
And getting myself in a disccussion I know I won't win, not because my arguments are invalid, but the continuous attempt of the other part to disregard any point of view different from theirs; doesn't go with me.

  24. By reading the comments, it seems to me that Sena fans hate Yozora really badly. I understand you like Sena, but that should be enough. I haven't read no one badhmouthing Sena.

    1. Because most of us don't even hate Sena. For me it's the opposite in fact. And even if they some people do dislike her, they aren't going stoop to badmouthing her. It's just the bizarre statements concerning Yozora that invoke the need to argue back. The novel is a comedy and it oughta be viewed as such. I don't hate any of the characters. At the most I just find some of them silly or funny.

    2. Thank you! That's exactly how this light novel should be read

    3. Well, I find the narcissism aggravating, but I don't hate her, either. She has her moments. Yozora just appeals to me more.

  25. Dang you Yozora fans are seriously butthurt over this huh, what could happen in the future is something that can be debated to no end, but what is occurring right now is something you sorry existences can't deny. Yozora is as far as way from winning as one can be, i heard someone say Sena is getting the limelight now and Yozora will later, well that may be a fair way to think....if this was like volume 5 or 6, the volume has been implied to be nearing it's end this IS nearing the climax people. Volume 8 will make Kodaka gain his first friend with Rika, then volume 9 will sort out feelings.

Now riddle me this, do you think Yozora can change 180 in a single volume? Because sorry to break it you Sena's change hasn't occurred in one volume, it has been progressive. Sena is spoiled, stuck up, snobbish, a bit of a pervert (putting it lightly), and frankly a pretty messed up girl. You think we Sena fans are in denial over this? We like her despite it! Now on to Yozora shall we? A antisocial misanthrope, a girl who is nihilistic and has no direction, oh ya also a girl who curses the very existence of those who get in the way of her and Kodaka. Sena has never gone dirty in her methods of trying to win, neither has even Rika with her perverted facade, they have all kept it fairly clean...all except for Yozora, or do you want me to list the amount of times she tried to use underhanded methods to get her way.

Do you people seriously forget volume 7s end?

Just a few lines to refresh your memory

"...I've never talked to her, but I hate her to death."

"...I came up with it in the hopes that her life would end like his. ...Anyway, it's awful just being in the same school as her. Every time I see her, I'll wait till she goes by me, and then glare at her from behind, or quietly click my tongue at her, or something like that."

As for Kodaka's reaction (since in your naive eyes he so approves of her viewing of people)

    "H-holy crap are you petty..."

Oh man... this is just... pathetic.

I mean seriously there are so many examples like that, Kodaka has made remarks about all of them, this includes Sena, Rika and all the rest, Yozora isn't the only one he has pegged with such thoughts BUT she is the one who he has pegged the most. Kodaka wants friendship, and while Yozora may indeed despite her current status want friendship under all that malice it doesn't change the fact that she is nowhere near the progression needed to change into that kind of character. Heck you all are forgetting the most basic of things, why did Yozora create the club? You really think she wanted friends, are you that naive? Ask yourself that question again after you reread the novels, there have been many indications on how it was all a cover for her to spend time with Kodaka. Her creating a imaginary friend is simply her alternative to getting along with people which is something she HAS to do.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. You people seem to think her making an imaginary friend is her desperation for friendship but it's not, she doesn't like people thus she fabricates someone she does like, that's basically how it works. Sena is fairly bad in this sense also i think she said something like "there are the kind that get along with me and the rest are all bitches." or something like that, that shows Sena has major issues also but at the very least she IS progressing. They all are. Yozora is falling, heck even her "date' chapters was wasted on cats more then the progressing her feelings with Kodaka.

One last thing, you Yozora fan's CAN'T DENY, Yozora is stuck to the past and sorry to break it to you but that is a recipe for loss, name on anime/manga/LN/VN anything where someone who denies the present for the past wins, seriously name one! You can't right? Yozora needs a 180 change to win, is it possible? sure, fine it's possible, is it likely? Not really no, i see the author giving Yozora friends at the end, but i don't see her winning, Yozora won't be miserable but she won't win.

      Delete
    2. You're not really saying anything new here. But if you're going to quote Kodaka's words with respect to Yozora, then please do take note of the stuff that he says and thinks about Sena. Although these little things hardly matter. They don't reflect his true feelings for them in the least.

      Delete
    3. Can Yozora change 180 degrees in a single volume? Well, yeah. It doesn't need that long actually. If the author wants he can write "...and then Yozora realised she was wrong all along and started being a better person". It really puzzles me how some people think the characters are real human beings. You are forgetting, this is a fictional work.

      Delete
    4. Wasted on cats? If I recall Kodaka thought Yozora looked cute, how can that be bad? Are you implying Kodaka was thinking "this bitcht isn't paying attention to me, she is a waste of time, better date Sena"?

      Delete
    5. Hardly, I'm implying that she wasted one of the few moments she actually got on something asinine, its well known that harems moments like dates can be make or break as they either progress or show that the character in question has no chance, while that date didn't have such drastic outcomes it without a doubt didn't help her chances. Thus she indeed wasted a chance.

      Delete
    6. Also never claimed to state anything new, simply stating what you Yozora fanboys deny. It's been out there for quite a long time, which just shows how long you have been in denial. Yozora may or may not win, who knows, i can't say as I'm obviously not the author but if viewed objectively she is clearly losing as of now and the chances for her making a realistic or at the very least believable enough for a reader to enjoy turnaround is getting less and less likely, volume 9 will speaks volumes in this regard, it may even give an actual answer to the whole debate.

      Delete
    7. There really was no "debate" to begin with. Let me give you an example; when a child starts rambling about his delusions, an adult would stop and try to reason with him. That can't really be called a debate. No offence, but it's similar to that.

      Delete
    8. In the words of Ashley Williams "Why is it whenever somebody says 'with all due respect' they really mean 'kiss my ass'? ". Now I know that's not exactly what you said and no offense, but its similar to that.

  26. Well... it's not so hard to guess what Haganai is about.

    It's about friendship.

Yozora and Sena are displaying something.

One character stands for friendship and one stands for loneliness.

Everything Yozora does has absolutely nothing to do with friendship.

Sena goes the normal way to achieve a friendship. She thinks about him, goes out with him, invites him, achieves trust...

Yozora doesn't do anything like that. She is tormenting Kodaka with her past childhood friendship, she only forces those things upon him, she uses tricks and manipulates.

Haganai is a test of humanity.

Can you recognize what real friendship means?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Fully agree with this, it's even in the freaken title. Haganai has always had friendship at it's core with romance as a second step to it, assuming the Rika theory is correct the next step would be romance but Yozora hasn't taken the first step that everyone else has. Yozora MAY want friends but she doesn't take actions to get them, be it hesitation or w/e reason i can't say, since I'm not Yozora nor the author who creates her future.

Someone said that anything can happen since this is a LN not RL and frankly that's a halfassed truth. Sure anything "can" happen but unless the author wants fans to rage on ass pull developments the author will attempt to make the changes believable, so it comes down to the same question Yozora fans, do you honestly sincerely believe Yozora can change in a single volume? Because this series is ending, all signs point to it. Kodaka needs to resolve his friendship then just pick his pairing, heck i believe Connect was even released as it was to delay the anticipation for volume 9 to build up his choice even more, if I'm right it's brilliant planning by the author.

Well for what it's worth i do hope Yozora changes, i just don't want Yozora to win since i don't believe she deserves it. Pity and sympathy don't qualify credentials in these things nor does that past either. Yozora may want Kodaka even more then Sena and Rika, but she clearly doesn't take the actions to follow it up. In all honesty i pity Yozora, have for a long time, as she is NOW she is social suicide and frankly i doubt that is what she wanted to be.

    5. That last comment was uncalled for

      Delete
    6. That's not really what I was implying, y'know :) I'm talking about the thought pattern. Sure lots of people like Sena, but they don't voice their opinions in such a belligerent manner.

      Delete
    7. Nor do they make such absurd statements about Yozora.

      Delete
    8. Wow so many butthurt Yozora fans, you all are acting exactly like she was in the latest episode. Which is true irony since it was an example of what many Sena fans have said here, she is getting her karma for using underhanded methods, her pushing it off as bad luck is her naivety in believing that it's ok to hurt other people as long as she gets what she wants. It would make Yozora all the happier if everyone lost image in Kodaka's eyes, leaving only her, that in itself is a pathetic way to try and win. So based on that and THAT alone, methods wise Sena is way more honest and that is something anybody can appreciate even those who dislike her if they are truly being objective on the proper ways to try and win.

  28. First off I’d like to thank Vexed for yet another great chapter. I really do appreciate your translation, not only the speed but also the quality of the editing. Some ln translations are just horribly awkward, but yours always flow very nicely, well done.

Now, for the overblown argument at hand. I'm going to lay out a few basic things here. First, I regard each version of this title as its own entity, I don't care which is considered canon or not, but observations of the manga and anime don't influence my views of the ln. Second, if you need to post comments with insults, prejudiced remarks, or foul comments like the phrase "butthurt" (seriously.....how many times can you use that?) then I'm pretty much thinking you're a little too emotional in your reaction to the ongoing dialogue here. Third, let's not forget that this is a discussion regarding the events in a work of fiction, we can enjoy the discourse without all the anger and vitriol. That said I'd like to look at the various characters and their recent events and motivations.

  29. CONTINUED

Sena: Much has been said recently about Sena's development and how her romantic star is rising. Although many of the recent chapters and one to one moments have involved her, I'm not sure she is the lock that some seem convinced of. A previous post stated that Sena is going about learning to make friends the normal way....Really? By normal do you mean playing galge and basing your social interactions off the situations therein? Also, Sena still has her unfortunate, borderline terrifying, obsession with Kobato. I seriously doubt that Kodaka would be able to date someone who his may need to file a restraining order against. Sena also continues to suffer from her egomania and fails to see the impact of her actions on others. However, in her favor, Sena is starting to learn how to connect with others. During the creation of the movie she is even able to compliment the others, something she never would have done in the beginning.

Yukimura: Yeah,I agree with everyone else here, never gonna happen. Even though she has begun to develop a little more personality and a bit of backbone, she'll always be more of a second tier character. Although, Yukimura's character does provide us an interesting insight to Kodaka. As the last few chapters have shown, Kodaka is much less oblivious than we thought. Do you really think he isn't aware that Yukimura is unable to deny anything to her Aniki, and I do mean anything. This shows us that Kodaka is aware that you can't really have a relationship with someone who worships you instead of caring for you (yes, there's a massive difference), and that he isn't just opportunistic when it comes to women. Actually, his compassion and support of Yukimura is one of my favorite things about these books, especially when he could so easily abuse her adoration.

  30. CONTINUED

Yozora: Things have not looked good recently for the founder of the neighbors club. Yozora's scheming and bitterness have caused her multiple backfires and disapproval from Kodaka, and in many instances this black mood seems to be pulling her down farther. Those who are firmly in her camp see these attributes as cute, but that is the way you are identifying with them, not how Kodaka sees it. Kodaka often comments on how regrettable Yozora's views of others are, sometimes he's even shocked by how bitter she is. But all hope may not be lost. It is true that Yozora is beginning to change her ways as well, she was able to apologize for the plagiarism and she recognized that it wouldn't be right to play the movie without Rika. This shows that she is starting to see the effects of her actions and the importance of the other neighbors club members, if not other people in general. Sometimes people have to be shown the error of their ways before they seek redemption, and that may be what we're seeing here.

Rika and Kodaka: Holy development Batman! I put these two together because right now their developments are the most closely linked. Both of them realize that, despite the others being unaware of it, the members of the neighbors club are already friends. The difference is in how they wish to proceed from there. Rika is ready to put the cards on the table and call everything out, she also wants to acknowledge her friendship with Kodaka and possibly pursue something more. Rika also reveals that much of her super perversity is an act that she originally used as a sort of protection against being rejected, but now stays with as a way to keep the club continuing as is. Kodaka on the other hand appears terrified that acknowledging the friendship among the club members will be the end of everything, and so he'll do anything to maintain status quo. Is Kodaka as aware of the romantic feelings of the other members as Rika is? I'm not so sure. But, he definitely understands that Rika is willing to sublimate her own feelings and maintain the super perv scientist character just for Kodaka's benefit. Even if they haven't said it out loud, these two understand that at the very least they are friends. You don't make those kinds of sacrifices for an acquaintance.

So, who will win the heart of our pudding-haired hero? Who the hell knows but the author! But I do enjoy the analysis, that's half the fun in reading these!!
