Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai (Novel) - Vol. 8 Ch. 1

So here's the start of volume 8, which delves into Kodaka's thought process regarding last chapter's events. The chapter is pretty short, but it should still be enjoyable given the content. Also I promise YK will be next to those who are waiting. I've actually got a YK chapter done, but I wanted to do Haganai first because it's been a while since the last release. In other news, I've got some good/bad (depending on you look at it) news about WEE that I'll make a post for later (you may have already seen it if you frequent /jp/). Anyway, links below:

  4. Kodaka wants a safe place to stay?

He is just crying for a partner! Only Sena can make him happy and offer him such a place.

    1. Kodaka has seriously got mental problems, what he needs is a psychiatrist, in fact, all of them barring Rika need a psychiatrist. Not an intimate relationship. He's already happy he just has problems he needs to get over before he can keep going on with his life though.

  8. Thank you..I hope for a Sena ending ofc..but I want an event where Kodaka just rages and leaves them all for abit. Cause they are so annoying and Kodaka gotta teach them a lesson. Then they all realize the club isn't the club without Kodaka, and they realize how important he is to them.

  9. What is with this rampant obsession for Sena...just don't get it....bitchy. And as vain as the devil himself.

"Oh buy Yozora's even more of a bitch-" yeah. To Sena. If you'll recall, Yozora didn't let on the hateful aura till Sena showed up. Sure, she was a loner and such, but that's due to Kodaka leaving without saying goodbye (both of their faults, but I mostly blame him for waiting till the last damn minute) so she didn't want to make another friend so she wouldn't have to lose another friend. Thus leading to her cold demeanor and social situation. I would say I pity her, but I have a feeling I would be found dead in an alley, killed by the 2-D Art of Death.

Sena Sena Sena. Rich, frigg'in smart, athletic, gamer, hawt. Win so far. Vain, creepy, bitchy, idiot. Granted, everyone has pros and cons...even Yozora. Honestly, Sena could probably make friends easier than anyone else in the club. If she'd stop holding herself so high (or kept her mouth shut about it) she'd be in. I've been to a few highschools, but I don't even need to tell you-rich, beautiful girls band together and can get in with anyone. All she has to do is tone it down a notch. Or three.

Yozora has insecurities, Yukimura mistook himself for a boy, Rika is a genius, busy in her lab (not to mention all the BL) Maria is a ten year old genius nun, Kodaka's appearance screws him over, and Kobota's....well, doing fine, apparently.

Also, Sena, could get anyone she wants. No one else in the club can. So I, personally, don't like the idea of that sort of person coming in and...let's say 'win.' Yozora has problems talking to people. And a hell lot more plot than Sena. A LOT. Sena reeeeeaallly just has that marriage thing, which wasn't that good, and was probably thrown in to give her both plot and a better 'winning' chance.

Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai+. If you don't know, it's a manga where Kodaka meets Sena in the classroom, rather than Yozora. For the many vocal Sena lovers, I recommend it. It's short, but worth a quick read. Although Rika and Yukimura don't appear until the last, extra chapter (which is consequently the funniest). Aaaannnnnd yeah, Kodaka x Sena. While it wasn't written by the original author, I can't help but think that this work would be a slap to the face if Sena 'wins' in the original work. Like, haha, Sena wins everywhere, academically, athletically, financially, in appearance, breasts, and, romantically, in TWO UNIVERSES (UUUUUUNNNNNIIIIIIVVVVEERRRRSSSSSSEEEE).

Finally, I know a couple things I wished I didn't about this coming volume, one regarding Rika and one regarding Sena. Never fear, no spoilers, but the latter really locks it in for me as to who 'wins' for reasons I won't say. Just got that vibe.

le sigh.....OK I'm done. Be clear, I don't hate Sena, she's a good character and wonderful addition to this band of misfits. I just like Yozora more because of I sympathize with her more and I...just...can't stand vain people. Plus, ehh, romantically, Yozora's the underdog for being less... robust...so go underdog. Anyway, I don't wanna see K x S pairing here, am tired of everyone ogling over Sena, and wanted to let off some steam. Feel free to disagree. But no matter how I feel, or you feel, the series will go where it goes...and the comedy will make up for it. It already has.

    Thanks Vex!

    1. TL;DR honestly....but that aside its very freaken simple, Sena=change, Yozora=the Past, she is stuck in the past and is rotting in the edges of society, heck she has no interest in even bettering herself, she made a club just to drag Kodaka down with her, unlike the rest of them (particularly Rika) who actually want friends. Yozora has only fallen as a character and has done nothing to indicate that she will end up with Kodaka, Sena at least has the guts to step forward and not be hindered by such things. Sena>Yozora anyday, you are entitled to your opinion but realize that its a minority, so just as i stated my opinion realize that yours isn't a fact either.

  11. Dammit all damn! I was about to publish my reply when chrome crashed...lets close some tabs and do it again...from the top...damn I half of what I said. Hope I don't start repeating my previous comment...oh well.

I realize that it's a fact, and, that it's a minority! Haha. But Yozora dragging him down with her? Back up a bit, friend. She formed the club so they could be friends again, and learn how to make new ones. Granted, she had more emphasis on the former. Also granted, she represents the past. But she wants a friend just a much as anyone in the club. She as an air friend. I don't care what she says, that bitch is lonely! As I said before, the reason for her cold demeanor is her feelings of abandonment. Emotionally, she would have a much harder time finding a friend-not to mention a boyfriend-than Sena. Yeah, Sena has been bolder than Yozora, but Yozora has had her fair share of indications.

But that's where Sena's main advantage lays, does it not? She isn't near as shy as Yozora. (Do they really make swimsuits like Y's?) Social outcasts tend to be more timid than most. I would know. Unlike them, I had like two good friends, but my bigger stature, deeper voice, and quiet nature kept most away, somewhat like Kodaka, and like Yozora, I had a hard time liking people. So I relate to them, thus my affection. Eh, people tend to warm up to characters they relate to.

Damn, do I really have to make it two posts...?! TBC!

    1. Yo! Continue!

While Yozora is the past, I just can't see Sena as change. Rather, I see the whole club as change. Sure, she's a new girl in his life, and the other main candidate, I can sorta see where people see that. But does that really qualify her as change? I've heard the argument "Sena's everything Kodaka wants to be" but is that true? What does Kodaka want? Friends! What is the one thing Sena does not have? Friends! She doesn't have what he wants! (I don't mean in a spouse, I mean in general)

Also, Kodaka doesn't want to be perfect. If he wanted to be perfect, he'd dye his hair (which we know he'd never do) study more, get into an athletic hobby, like jogging, er...something....and be much more active in friend making. Like practicing on his damn smile.

Let's switch gears from the Blonde Bitch to the Black-haired Bitch for a sec. While she does represent the past, perhaps she's also meant as a past mistake to be corrected? Honestly, if they hadn't move, K and Y would have continued being friends, and made a few more (remember her cold attitude was largely caused by his leaving-or at least, amplified. And with one friend to back him up, Kodaka would have a much easier time. Not to mention the thing on his first day wouldn't have happened. Running late, remember?) they wouldn't have formed the club, no need for it, they might have met the other members (who knows how, when, or in which direction they interacted with each other) and they probably would have started dating at this point. (or the relationship would have started to blossom. Teenagers. Hormones. The like.)

  12. Again!

But nope. Moved. Bye. See ya in ten years, woman. Bring pie. On another note, as we know, this is a band of misfits, and everyone as a problem. Some, bigger than others. Does this series strike you as the type to leave characters to rot away? Yozora's the most damaged and needs more pulling up than any other (Sena, on the other hand, needs yanking down, lol)

While I don't think Yozora has no interest in bettering herself as you say, let's consider your view for a moment. So, Yozora has problems, but doesn't want to better herself. I think that would help her. Cause she would need Kodaka to make her want to change, then help her change, rather than Sena, who just needs help changing. So...! The option with less Meat has more meat on it...! Anyone...?! No...? Ok. I won't do that again.

There's also a character stereotype to be considered here. One that's often overlooked. The "one that changed everything." Basically, a lot of the time there's that one character that moves the protagonist out of their normal boring everyday into something else, the one that sparks the chain of events that make the think of the story, the one that moves the plot forward. I've noticed, but, that one wins. A lot. To name some old examples that were obviously going to win, (skip the paragraph if you'd rather not read) Shana, Taiga, Saber, Nagisa, C.C., Aria, to name a few.

Wort wort wort. Point is, the one that changes everything wins a lot. Mostly, because they're the more interesting or when the author first thought of the story, they had that pairing in mind. One girl took an old friend and made a club with him to became friends again as well as make new ones, leading to his meeting of every other character. Extra points for childhood friend. Extra points for it being a secret and crying at the reunion. One girl, joined the next chapter. Extra points for having a prearranged marriage. Extra points for having traits that appeal to the fanbase. Really, I'd...(look over shoulder...ok she's not here) like a girl like her.

  13. End!

True, this series laughs at stereotypes. The stereotype I talked about could be laughed at. On the flip side, maybe the author wanted to give Sena these qualities, build a fanbase, and then laugh at that. Maybe, they all became friends and he laughs at all of us. Like, K says, "I want..." and the series ends.

But, I must say, stories should be all thought out before they begin publication. If he wants K x S, I hope he wanted it from the beginning. If he wants K x Y, I hope he wanted it from the beginning. I pray he doesn't change his mind, and the end result, due to the fanbase. You might not like me saying that, for obvious reasons, but without going into it on this type of site, I'd really, really, really, really, rather not, not, not, have another ending affected by the fanbase. That was such...a pain in the ass. So, if Sena was destined to win from the start, then by all means. My ideal ending is K x Y, but, I suppose as long as Y gets fixed and everyone becomes friends (especially Y and S) then I would have less of a problem. Not that I'd ever have such I problem that I'd bitch about it, mind you. Those guys are annoying.

Well, I know I'm forgetting to say some things that I did before, but no matter. I might remember later. I don't like arguing, but I enjoy debating. Which bitch! Because they're both one. I said bitch too much, didn't I...back to my visual novels. I say, good day. (for now, I guess. insert smiley emoticon)

    1. I appreciate your opinion, but in some ways I think you're personal resonance with certain characters is causing you to over look a few things
For instance,Sena is a much more flawed character than you are portraying her to be. The only females she can somewhat successfully interact with are Rika (who is far more aware of the situation than anyone else and can adapt to Sena's borderline mania and narcissism) and Yukimura (whose respect for her elders overrides any contrary opinion she could ever possibly have. The only way she has attempted to learn how to interact with other women is by playing ero Sims as the male lead, just look at how she obsesses over Kobota. Even more importantly, look at how creeped out Kobato is by Sena.
Also, Sena's relationships with men are no better. The boys who fawn over her have no interest in her, all they see is from the neck down. In a way, Sena is even more of a tragedy. She has all the tools at her disposal to not only be popular, but to be a genuinely great person. Its just that twisted narcissistic streak standing in her way.
BTW I personally wish we'd get a a Rika ending. Nerd girls are hot. Honestly though, I love the way Rika sees through all of the tangled relationships and flawed people around her, but has never tried to do anything but help the club when she could probably very easily try to spin things to her advantage.

  16. Please put up the novel illustrations when you can, thanks again for the translation :D

Also you Yozora fans in mad denial, all you good is childhood friend and "first girl" but the second one doesn't even count as Kodaka met Sena first even if it is just a technicality, also childhood friends almost always get friendzoned, they almost never win, Yozora has done nothing to indicate progress, heck one chapter was even called the FALL of Yozora or something similiar right? Rika is gonna become his first friend likely, i see the end of volume 7 indicating that as she knows the real him, Yukimura has ZERO chance, Maria has negative chance, so its process of elimination, or do you think the author after all of this will pick nobody, if that was the idea then the fiancee thing would have never came up, Kodaka is leaning towards Sena, all of you should just accept that. Volume 8 will likely just work out his thoughts, volume 9 is confession time!

    1. Am I the only one who is neutral in this shipping war? If it's not the Yozora fans bashing Sena, it's the Sena fans telling how much she is "perfect" and "she is what Kodaka wants". Both sides only look at the bad points of the other side's favourite and conveniently forget their own choice's flaws. I'm neutral in this conflict, so that I will not be disappointed in Kodaka's final choice (IF there is one), and I'm more interested in the following:
-Yukimura's backstory (seriously, we need this one) and character developpment
-will the members of the Neighbors Club finally admit they are all friends?
-will Maria and Kobato finally admit they are friends?
-and, most of all (at least in my opinion), will Yozora and Sena finally admit that they consider each other as friends (if you don't believe me, reread Sena and Kodaka's conversation about her "Meat" nickname during the date in vol. 6 and Yozora's concern for Sena after having truly hurt her in the same volume)

  17. Don't put so much thoughts in this story, your heads will only explode.

But yes, it's obvious that Kodaka will marry Sena at the end because she is the only girl he can be happy with.

Yozora can't even love someone because she has an extreme social phobia. Don't forget that this is a serious disease that completely ruins the life of such persons. Always alone, always negative thinking, completely fear-ridden with unrational thoughts that the whole world is against you and that all happy people should just die.

To become completely happy, Kodaka must get rid of Yozora.

  18. I haven't been reading the light novels at all-- can't seem to get into them. But I don't see how Yozora is such a hazard for Kodaka.. if you think about it, this story is just a harem. Do we really care about WHO KODAKA the MC gets in the end? Nah, I think it's more like who we think is the better waifu (for ourselves). Having SenaxKodaka isn't my preference (I really like Yozora), but let's not over-analyze everything and end up stepping over people's opinions and interests..

    1. You know i value the concept of everyone having different opinions but yours is pretty stupid, for the simple reason that you didn't read the LNs T_T, don't talk when you haven't read anything it makes you give ignorant misinformed opinions based on half assed information. Also don't push your preference of thought onto other people as if its fact, don't assume we care about what you care about or in this case not care about what you don't care about, its arrogant to think such a way. The fact that stepping over people's opinions and interest is just the last straw in your own hypocrisy. Get informed if you wish for people to take your opinions seriously.

  19. amen to harem ending.
it's a harem genre title so you're supposed to choose all the girls.
if you feel the need to choose between two girls in a harem title then you have no business reading/watching this genre.
